Bon voyage Justin
But I would like to tell you that you can't buy, sell or simply own native newts in France if you don't have a permit, the law is very strict on this point.
OK, there is only 5 species (Palmate, Alpine, Smooth, Crested and marbled) in France. If I remember well, Banded newt (from eastern europe not a native from France)is the only newt of the Triturus Genus that can be sold in France, probably because it doesn't have close relative there. But, one of the few frenchs who breed them (Arnaud Jamin) says on his site banded newts were almost impossible to find in France and to look on the side of Germany («bourses allemandes») to find some!
Otherwise, Danube crested (I guess you talk about Triturus Dobrogicus) is too closely related to french crested (it can breed with the nominale form found in France) and it can't be legally owned.
So, I think most french newt keepers own american and chinese newts!!!!!
Hope it helps
Good luck
Eric
