<font color="0000ff"><font size="+1">Hey Guys!

My newts have lived for a year and two months with lighting from mostly sun(Not direct. I recently put in a 25 watt normal light and they are now hiding in the shade like the light is melting them!LOL! The water is still the same temp as always though. I am confused. Al I know is that both are hiding in the back corner. They also havn't eaten their guppies. Could they be scared? they are 7 cm each my newts.

Is something wrong with them or should I get a 15 watt light instead???

What species are you keeping? I just got finished speaking with a friend of mine who has a Chinese fire-belly newt in a ten gallon tank, and the animal never eats because he keeps it under 50 watts of hot incandescent light. Temp in the tank is above 80 F. I warned him abut it today, and he said he would change his setup. Chinese fire-bellies don't like it hotter than 68 F.

Hey Ray!

Yes I do have Chinese Fire bellied newts but the water temp is around 65 so everything as fine as well as I know. Maybe they are scared by the guppies? I'm so confused!!! I wish they would just eat them and be brave!

Nathan, you should get a fluorescent light, not a regular light bulb. Either that, or go back to indirect sunlight. Even if the lamp is not heating the water, it could be heating the air.

Most newts do not eat guppies. If there are a lot of guppies, it could be stressing them.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
