Hi

This may be a dumb question.

If I have only two newts in a tank and they have laid eggs then can I assume one is a male and one is a female ?

OK the reason is mine lay loads of eggs but they all went moldy or got eaten.
I was just wondering what went wrong ? :(

Thanks

Mike :D

If no egg has ever developed then you probably have two females.
Take pictures of their cloacae and we´ll help you identify the genders.

Thanks, sounds like that is the reason.

This is going to mean I also have their names wrong, you just cant trust pet shops :talker: they said they were a Male and a Female : )

Pictures of
Issac Newton (male name) and
Olivia Newton-John (female name)

photos coming soon.

Ok Rodrigo here are the pictures. I put them in a little tank then rested it on 2 chairs then lay underneath it and took the photos : 0

Thanks in advance for you help mate : )

Yep, two females.
If you´d like to acquire a male, i strongly recommend to stay away from pet-shops and instead either look for captive bred animals or perhaps a male that someone else is giving away.

I´ve done the two chairs trick too xDD

Well done Rodrigo

Well that has solves the non hatching eggs mystery.

I think I will have to rename Issac to a more female name and find the girls a suitable mate.

Thanks

Mike
