Great looking tanks there. I've just bought a tank and Im in the process of dividing it to have a terestrial section of it, but I was wondering what to use for that, suggestions have been compost, coco-something or other (mulchy type stuff that comes in a brick that you soak and expands), I'd like to have a plant too, but don't know what newts like. Love some advise.

Billie, it's not clear in your post... are you looking for suggestions of how to divide the tank (i.e., how to keep the soil separated from the water), or what kind of substrate to use? If you use soil, you do need some good solid division between the soil and the water areas. It is often easier just to use plants that don't need soil. If you haven't seen it already, this might help get you started:
