Is it a good idea to have a densely planted tank with a sand bottom without a filter out should I stick with a filter I was thinking a 20 gal long for 2 pairs of alpine newts also should I go with a larger tank?

I prefer to have lots of plants in my tanks, some are sand bottomed and others are Walstad style tanks. I don't have filters now in any of them. I would say tank size wise it could be ok for two pairs... If you can go bigger do so :) Make sure the tank has a really close fitting lid as newts are rather good at scaling glass and escaping through the tiniest of spaces.

Thank you so much I will make sure of the lid
