<font color="0000ff"><font face="courier new, courier">i have a california newt in a pretty large tank and want to add some variety to it, what are some other things that i could put in?

the water is very cold in the tank, i heard newts enjoy cold water, but this water is colder than i can stand, should i heat it?

i also wan t put plants in but have heard things about real plants, in a big tank with a filter, can i put plants in and everything stay nice?

No heat. No heat. No heat. If you don't have ay sort of cooling device in there, I doubt that the tank is too cold. The only way that the tank could be to cold, really, is to actually freeze the water. Anything above 72 degrees F is too hot for newts.

Thank you,

Plants should be fine, as far as compatibility with the newt is concerned. The only problem is whether they will have enough light and do well in cold water. If you have a island area, you can put some cuttings of pothos in/on it. Pothos grows above the water, but will grow with its roots in water, no soil needed. I agree with Erik, no heater!
