Newt noise??

Not really. No newts that I know of make any noise, though a few species of salamander will make limited noise; sirens make a clicking noise, and necturus are said to make a "barking" kind of noise that may just be gulping air.

I have heard Triturus vulgaris make a small mouse like squeek when startled before, but these are the only newts I have personally heard noises coming from.

My Taricha release air when stressed and this makes a small squeek noise.

Hayden, where did you get your Taricha from? Are they Taricha granulosa?

I have heard triturus vulgarus squeak, it was much louder than I would have ever expected, quite startling and effective, if it wasn't for its squeak I would have accidentally stepped on it.

Nicolas,
We e-mailed each other about this numerous times. I was the one who gave you dawn's email.

Don't think so, I never e-mailed you, and I don't know who Dawn is. Dawn has Taricha? Fill me in.

... Oh yeah, I just picked up one Taricha granulosa today, but that's not enough for a 50 gallon tank, haha.

Hmmm...I have your email. Maybe it was about something else...

i can back up T. vulgaris squeaking, and your right it is quite a shock.

but do other Triturus make any noises or is it just vulgaris?

If handled roughly all Triturus will "squeek", so will Salamandra and Notopthalmus, and probably most caudates.

I remember a long time ago when I first got newts that when I picked them up they would always bob their throats and squeek until I let them go. I know I wasnt holding them to tight cause it always happened when my mom picked one up.

Hayden, doesn't matter much what happened in the past, I'm looking for Taricha now. Dawn has some available? If not, do you know where where could I could find Taricha?

Nicolas, email me at kurt_bert_claudio@hotmail.com and I could try and hook you up w/ dawn. They are small and probably wouldnt be able to live with your adult right now(Im assuming you have an adult if they are from a pet store).

my a. maculatums and especially my n. viridescens make a popping noise.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
