My biggest C. Orientalist went missing today. I came back from work and could not find her anywhere in the tank.

Which is the most plausible explanation?

1.Escape. Tank seems escape proof but there are possibilities. I covered those with sponges today. If she escaped what would be the best way to find her? I'd hate it if my dog ate her and died :(
2. Death. Would it be possible for her to have died and been eaten? Would 20 hours be enough for many Rcs and a large snail to eat her body?
3. Trapped, hiding

What are Rcs's? I know that 20 hours can be enough if you've got Gammarus or shrimp, but the skeleton remains for a large part. If you've discovered ways for the newt to escape the tanks, that's probably what happened (Occam's razor), though newts are masters in hiding in plain sight as well. Put a wet towel on the floor and check it regularly. If the newt's still alive it will search for moisture.

I've found an escaped T.carnifex juvenile at the entrance of the crawling space beneath our house, though we sold all our T.carnifex a year ago.

Red cherry shrimp. I really doubt she died though, since she was completely healthy and eating well. No sleleton either, she's really not in the tank. I've blocked off what I once thought was an inescapable hole, will leave those towels like you said. I really really hope I find her before the dog does :/

Update, i found her in my shower! Alive and well I hope, I've returned her to the tank, will observe over the next day

That was lucky! Glad she is nice and safe. If the animal wasn´t severely dehidrated it should recover without any problems at all.
Make extra sure that the lid is 100% scape proof, take no chances.

Yeah she's doing great, in fact I wasn't too surprised, the shower was the first place I thought to check when she went missing. She was caked in dust when I found her and some wasn't really coming off but she shed her skin soon after I put her back and is looking good :)
I've stuffed sponges into the hole she would've used, is that enough?

Neil I got curious about Occam's razor so I researched it just now :p

Which ironically is the addition of a new principle in your life that is never unnecessary.

Update: the newt is having shedding problems. I see one piece flapping on her side, and another on her hind leg. She's active and eating normally. What could have causes this and how can I fix it?

aaand she's ok again :) Will observe closely, hopefully next shed will be clean
