Hi guys. I have these newt larvea and some of them are coming out of the water now. I believe they are eastern newts. The pond that I rescued them from had eastern newts in it... so easy to assume. But now they are coming out, they are still dark in color instead of red. Are these a different species or when will they turn red? Has anyone raised easterns and could offer me advice on the eft stage? Any thing I should know that I might not find in research? Pictures of vivariums paludariums or terrarium?

I think you should provide clearer images of the morphed specimen

The ones with the spots are a week older than the others that are still under water. Also I have 2 different clutches that are developing. The pond I got them from were filled with eastern newts EVERYWHERE. everything in the habitat pointed to easterns. But the spots have me so confused. Easterns are supposed to be red.

I'm pretty sure those are actually Spotted Salamander (Ambystoma maculatum) metamorphs due to the small yellow spots present.

yes but you definitely also have an eastern newt there also, in the first post, or whatever subspecies, depending on where he was caught. THe ones with yellow are definitely spotted salamanders.

So most of them have officially gotten their spots as they come to land. So other than a few they are spotted sallies. 🤔 now the biggest dilemma is that all of my research has been for eastern newts. Does any one have any advice for taking care of spotted sallies? Such as feeding and habitat set up and things they like or not, ect. What cool ideas do you have to see them I'm their burrows? I heard of one where you can put half pvc pipe or something in the ground against the glass so you can see them. Any other cool things to have?

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail.
