hi, i recently got a paddletail newt (had one b4 but 1st one died) i also got two red claw crabs. at the minute they are being kept seperately but iv just read that red claw crabs are best with having somewhere to get out like in our newts tank......just wondering what everyones opinion would be about them living together?? would we have fights and killings?

thanks,

I think that this combination is just waiting for a disaster to happen. I would say it is quite possible that there might be issues when it comes to keeping these animals together and I would suggest keeping them separate.

Those crabs are also extremely good at escaping, so be aware.

I agree with the above. there are loads of issues such as aggression (these crabs are territorial) the crabs eating the newts, the crabs stressing the newts out and disease/parasite/bacteria based issues
also don’t red claws do better in slightly warmer slightly brackish water or am I thinking of another species
P.S. yes this species of crab does best with a small area out of the water

Red clawed frogs will attack and eat anything that is low to the ground. I used to watch as one that I had would reach up and grab a fish as it was swimming by and take a bite. Not a good idea at all.
