pardon my enthusiasm, but i just love my newts! ive never owned amphibians before - the closest ive ever come was when i was a child and i used to catch tadpoles and release them just before or just after morphing.
i have only owned my two c.o. for three weeks, but already am attached. they have so much personality! fang is the more agressive of the two, stops whatever he is doing [or not doing] whenever i come up to the tank to look at them and comes up to the front glass to see me. quite often he tilts his head sideways and stares. the other day, he was balancing himself on the tip of his tale while watching me. loves being hand-fed. shui, on the other hand, tends to hide when humans come too close.
they have provided endless entertainment, as i cant get enough of watching them.
once we have a bigger living space, we definately plan to expand our aquarium collection [currently only have two, one with fish in it, as i had to downsize when i moved]... saltwater fish, frogs, more fish, etc [dont worry, we know better than to mix the wrong species!].
i cant say enough to thank all those who create/maintain/participate in this site, as it has given me mounds of information and help and has done much to increase my knowledge of and interest in newts!

ahh-well you should announce your enthusiasm for these animals and our site to the world at large by buying a caudata.org t-shirt! (i bought 2) im sure dave has some left.

i just accessed the order form link and it says its temp disabled as of 3/2/5....so cant get that one by that route-but im sure you could arrange it with david nash (dln) personally if youre interested.

I agree with Paris...what better way than to show it off AND have people ask you about it! I love my tee...and my critters

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
