Hi there,

I got my first axies 3 weeks ago (I only wanted one but my hubby insisted on two), on the second day I noticed some spermaphores in the tank but no apparant eggs. There were more spermaphores about 5 days ago, when I also noticed that the male had whitespot. So now I am fridging both of them in seperate containers, and giving them salt baths twice daily (I've done this for 4 days now, no improvement). Just now when giving them their pm salt bath and daily water change I've noticed 2 eggs in her container!!!

What should I do with these eggs? Will they be viable? Should I continue to fridge her and give her salt baths (I can't see any white spot, but she is white/goldish coloured, he is dark)?

Pease help!

Thanks,
Kat

How long after the last spermetaphore you seen in the tank did you start fridging, I dont think fridging would be best with a belly full of eggs. I would leave her in a container with something in it for her to lay eggs on (plant, hide etc) so she can finish laying then return to treatment, fridging will slow down or maybe even temporarilly stop the egg laying process, and I cant imagine it to be a good thing having a belly full of eggs that cant get out, they might go bad inside her and cause more problems.
I am not expert though, this is just a theory. please wait a little for the experts.

Moving her during egg laying can be risky. It is best to leave her out of the fridge in an area with little to no disturbances and hopefully she will continue to lay the eggs, but usually major disturbances (like water changes while fridging) will cause her to stop laying for a while, followed by clumps of eggs that will be no good, just in my experience.

It was probably 3 days max before she laid the eggs. No more at this stage (unless she is eating them between 12 hourly checks, but doubt it). I'm babysitting tonight so I wont get the change to remove her from the fridge until 2moro.

The males gills are finally nicer, with alot of feather growth (still a bit of fungus though). But hers haven't improved any since I bought her, they are still quite stumpy :-(

I'm have to go away on Sat for 4 days so hopefully they will be ok while I'm gone (hubby isn't very capable of doing much more then daily water changes lol). I have changed the tank around so there is less flow from the filter and more hidey holes. Fingers crossed!
