Well, I may be a little biased, but Tylototriton verrucosus are a good first newt to have.

Do you know what sort of temperature the water is as many newts and salamanders will prefer cooler water temperatures.

Yeah temp is sitting at 18c. I'm looking to get some fbn to put in

I tried to recommend the verrucosus Julia or alpines as a beginner species.Although thats a nice looking tank Ive got that background myself

As I have done more researxh on the fbn and my flat is warm I dont think alpines will be suited. Cheers tho

I do think they look amazing. Im struggling to find anywhere locally that do any sort of newt.

If you want to keep an accurate temperature measure leave that thermometer submerged in the water .
I would also stick a bit of matured bog wood in the tank, and the gravel is gonna be a pain in the butt to clean dude.
I would still recommend these as a species for you

Caudata Culture Species Entry - Tylototriton verrucosus

The gravel is manly under the slate to raise it up a bit more. only a very thin layer of gravel round the rest of the tank. Have bought some wire mesh today to put on top to stop the wee ninjas escaping

Hi Julia,

Do you happen to have any croc newts available for sale atm?

Cheers

I think Bellaballoo has some juvy T.verrucosus available, pm her.

CFBN are great for starters, and I find them quite beautiful as well :) Your tank looks great and 18c is just perfect for them! One issue is that some of your gravel looks quite small. Make sure there aren't any pieces that a newt could swallow ok?

FBNs in petstores aren't in very good condition and don't always eat, because of the shipping conditions they went through. Getting some CB would be better
