Guys new to the axolotls world trying to set up a new tank housing two axolotls tank capacity is around 110L any suggestions on how much water i should be moving per hour?? also on how big my filter should be?? tank dimensions are 70L 46W 35H thanking you for any help and suggestions springie..

In general, you want a filter that is somewhat undersized for the size of the tank. Offhand, I don't know what the actual flow rate should be. The 'hang-on-back' waterfall style filters work well for axies and don't heat up the water. Beware of filters that are completely internal, they do heat the water.

I put your two threads together, as they are asking basically the same question. Thanks.

hi jennewt i really appreciate your words of advice, i am only new to axolotls and im currently in the process of setting up my tank now, if you dont mind do you have an email address or something where i could contact you incase i do have any questions i need to ask? theres alot to know and ive been doing alot of reading i do want the best for my future pets any advice or help would be greatly appreciated..

You can ask away on the forums for help and advice, that's what it's for! Also read around the site and you will find a wealth of information on keeping axolotls.

If you want to get in touch with a member directly you can private message them, just click on their name and you will see a list of options. But really, I would think all the questions you need to ask about axolotls are answered here in the forums or the information pages at axolotl.org or caudata culture.

I agree with Kerry, it's better to get advice right here. I prefer to answer questions on the forum, as there are other silent readers who may benefit. And if I'm too busy, I know others will answer:happy:

Re: Housing axolotls

the filter i would recommend would be the ' fluval 105 ' is has a max capacity of 100ltrs (which is only 10 less than your actual tank) the filter has a relativly slow water flow rate, but you can also adjust the output's positioning quite alot which means you can adjust the output in such a way as to reduce the power and speed of the water flowing around your tank, which will hugely reduce the amount of stress the axolotls are currently under.

i am currently using this filter in my adult axolotl's tank, the axolotl is about 8" long and the tank is 61 x 30 x 31cm or 24 x 12 x 12" in size, i do not know how big my tank is in gallons or litres.

i truly hope this has been of some help to you, let me know if it has or not.
all the best :
Gethin
