New tank stand!

I had my 20g-long (US gallons) and my 10g on this stand:

The 10g was on the bottom shelf - which, I know, wasn't designed to hold that kind of weight. Friday night, it started giving way, so I moved the 10g to a side table so it wouldn't come crashing down, destroying the tank and endangering Margaret.

Yesterday, while I was out shopping, I just HAPPENED to find a FANTASTIC console table to replace the metal stand - I wasn't even looking for it! It's very sturdy, very good construction - and it was the last of a discontinued line, so it was on clearance! I love it!

Whew! Good thing you were there when structural failure began. That would have been terrible to come home to. I just finished building a new stand for my 20 long and two ten gallons, but I made it big enough and strong enough for three 20 longs in case I upgrade down the line. Its 72"x48"x18".Would post pics if I had a camera. Great find on your part though.

I should get some pictures up of the stands that I built. Really cool looking stands, btw.

That's a lovely stand! I've been looking for one myself, I'm just not looking forward to the assembly process!

That's one of the things I love about this one - no assembly required! It's all solid wood

But some how I always thought metal stands will be stronger than wood stand. is it not?

It just depends on the quality of the construction. When I build my stands I usually put weights from my weight bench on it until it is 150% to 200% of the final tank weight. Then I know it won't structurally fail. I sometimes use heavy materials like slate and sandstone in my vivs so this testing is very important.
