Hey guys, I posted earlier this week about my sick baby axolotl that didn't make it. I ended up going back to the pet store and they said he didn't look like he had a fighting chance to begin with. I'm guessing the pet store is the main reason for him not living since I had only had him for 3 days but that's besides the point. I picked up a new one that is only missing one limb. (My last one was missing three.) I've decided to only partially fill my tank this time with river rock because my last axolotl seemed to have trouble finding his blood worms. I also have a mixture of real and fake plants. Lastly I have a HOB filter that came with my tank. I'm still new with axolotls so I was also wondering if anyone has pointers as far as what to feed a baby... I've read that they mostly eat frozen blood worm cubes. Thanks Everyone! :D

Here's my new tank set up... I gave him some open space to find his food as well as plenty of rock space to hangout on. I only used lighting for taking a picture.

Here's my new little guy. Still thinking of what to name him.

Also, the river rocks I used were bought packaged from a nearby hobby store. I'm not 100% sure if there's any harmful substances in them, but the package literally said "Smooth River Rock." I'm going to wait at least a day to test my water before putting the little guy in his new home.

I have to ask why you went back to a pet store that obviously has no idea about keeping axolotls - by buying their axies you are just perpetuating the bad treatment - if they sell axies they'll get more.

That aside, your set-up looks good  and the rocks should be fine.

Feed him live worms (bloodworms or earthworms) if you can, frozen if you have to.

That's a valid point... I didn't think of it that way :( My sister got an adult from the same store a few months back which is perfectly healthy. The person who breeds them also worked at the store when my sister bought hers. I found out he didn't work there anymore when I called with questions about mine. I would have felt a lot better if I bought one from someone who actually knows what they're talking about. I will also look into getting live food as well. Thanks for the feedback!
