Question: New tank change.

hey guys, i have just bought a bigger tank for my axies and im wondering how i should go about it? i am going to cycle the tank first but not sure about what to do with the new filter. should i put it in my old tank for a while or just use it in the new tank and tranfer some of the ornaments to aid the cycling?

How long has the previous tank been cycling or is it completely cycled? If it is fully cycled then I would just move the old filter into the new tank alongside the new filter or you could transfer the old filter media into the new filter if possible. Also whatever ornaments and substrate (sand etc) you have can be moved to the new tank. With everything that was in the previous tank, your new tank should not take long to cycle if it even does begin a mini cycle at all. The axolotl's could go in their new tank as long as you keep the parameters at a reasonable level :happy:

I agree with that. Maybe run your new filter in your current tank for a week or two to seed some bacteria then run it on your new tank or just "wash" the filter media of the old filter in your new tank then transfer ornaments and substrate

great advice guys, i was thinking of maybe putting the new filter in my current tank.
my current tank is fully cycled. i will try and transfer as much water and substrate as i can then just top up with new water and more sand.

will try and make the parameters as similar as possible.

The Ph shouldn't change if everything's the same and that's the only thing you really have to keep similar in terms of water parameters. You've already been through the cycling process so you already know how to handle levels of ammonia and nitrite in case they go up as a result of a mini cycle (however if you're seeding the new filter in the old tank then I can't see this happening)

How big is your new tank? I upgraded from a tiny tank to a 3ft tank and I already want a bigger one so I have more space to decorate

my new tank is 3ft, upgraded from a tiny one too but my axies are still tiny.

dont think my old filter is very good so hopefully the new tank and filter will do just fine.
