Hi!
I will be setting up a new tank with 180 litres for my two axies
Already got a divider for them (one is a little 9 cm axie and the older is a hungry 18 cm)

I will add filter pool sand and some new plants, can I just transfer the old decorations to the new tank and transfer the axies right away?

How does it affect the cycling the volume of the water? if it does at all...

thanks!

You can start cycling without the axies in, or put them in and do 20% water changes daily.

In all fairness, you should really cycle it without them in for best effect, especially if they are already somewhere safe and cycled.

Even with 20% daily water changes you will still be allowing toxic ammonia and nitrate/nitrites to build up and spike daily, this while not being fatal, is less than ideal for the axies health.

It's the filter that contains most of the colonised good bacteria, and that can't be allowed to dry out, however bacteria does form on everything else in the tank.

The safest option would be to set it up, and test water for a few days to determine how far into the cycle the new tank is.

great

I added the sand last night and it's very cloudy!!!

Now I started the filter, will that help with the cloudiness or make it worse??

I rinsed the sand for a few hours in a bucket, I thought it was clean... does the cloudiness make sense or did I screw up?

it's totally normal and will settle.

Give it another 24 hours.

I find sand settled quicker without the filter on.

great, thanks a lot

I was freaking out !!!

You could cycle the new tank with decorations from your old tank in it, that way the good bacteria from your old tank get into your new tank and the cycle should be done sooner. If you are planning to use the same filter on both tanks then it should be fine I think :)

No, I have a HOB eheim liberty 150, I can however add the used filter for a while (it's smaller) and I think that could help

But I will be transferring all the decorations and plants

is it a good idea to put some ornaments while the sand is setting?
