So I'm trying to sell my Fluval C2 power filter, but no luck so far, and I'm trying to save some bucks. So my question is, is the Fluval C2 good enough to filter my new 50g tank, or do I really have to buy a bigger one? I'm going bare bottom, and have 3 axolotls, so I wonder if it makes a difference.

best bet to make that work for you if your low on funds, you would have to probably use the inlet extension which i think most power filters come with, then fill your tank half full since that filter is only rated for 30 gallons, in order to subdue the massive water fall coming from the power filter, your gonna want to attach some sort of filter foam or floss to the outlet of your filter and cut the material to fit so it reaches the capacity of water in your tank, i prefer the aqua clear filter foam that i cut into thinner sheets and fit accordingly, good luck

because it's for axolotls the lower flow the better, so I would definitely not buy a larger filter. You may even need to divert the flow.
