Good morning everyone. We have recently acquired a tiger salamander. I am having a hard time telling if it is already morphing. I was wondering if you all could give me an idea on what you think. We have it set up in a 20 gal tank with water.
Thanks!!

I would guess that it is in the early stages of metamorphosis. If the gills get any smaller, then you will be certain. Have you seen it come to the surface to breathe? Does it have a place to climb out of the water? And a secure lid to prevent it climbing entirely out of the tank?

Thank you for answering. It doesn't come to the surface. It does have a secure lid. I was going to redo the tank this afternoon and make some land. Should I keep it mostly water and a little land for now?

For the moment, yes, keep it mostly water. But be prepared to change things (lower water, more land) as soon as you are certain that it is changing.
