As I was getting set to clean the tank today, I started to notice some new issues that have progressed as a result of plants being introduced to the tank, which have settled in for about a month so far.

The first is the arrival of some pests. Namely, snails and hydra. I already noticed the snails eating the leaves of my java fern. Will these be harmful to my axolotl? What's an effective way to get rid of them? When I ran into them before, I basically just manually crushed and removed them from the tank and they gradually disappeared. That said, is there a better way to do this?

Secondly, while my anubias is quite resilient, my java fern seems to be accumulating a fair number of brown leaves. Is there a way to prevent this? Should I be concerned about the state of my plant (I've removed all the brown leaves), or does it take some time to adjust to new water?

Lastly, there seems to be some buildup of green and brown algae. The rocks I've placed are starting to look grimy from the brown algae, and fluffy green algae are appearing on the leaves of the java fern. I've run into this issue before, and resolved it with some good scrubbing and blocking out sunlight, but now that I have a dedicated, timed light to simulate night/day and allow the plants to stay healthy, there's no way to use that as a solution. They also seem to be building up on my refrigeration unit pump. Are these algae harmful? And if their presence is aesthetically unbearable, what's a safe way to get rid of them without harming my axolotl?

Thanks!

Were the plants quarantined before being added? Unfortunately, plants for some reason, tend to carry a lot of unwanted travelers with them. That's why it's important to quarantine.

Ah, I wasn't aware that was a step I needed to do. I see now.
Is it too late to do it? Should I remove the plants, quarantine them, then return them to the tank (after thoroughly cleaning them)?

If your tank is still cycling then it shouldn't be too late. But hopefully someone else can weigh in.
