Hi David,

I actually love your setting. How big's your tank how do you keep them?
I'm putting mine in my bedroom now so I only keep the tank as simple as possible though.

Your big male looks cool!

Hi,

the tank is a own creation that is light and cheap:

Thats how it looks like with flash light - it never gets that bright in there and the animals feel comfortable as it seems.

Normally it's that dark.

The ground is foam covered with soil and leaves from the near forest. There are several wood-pieces that creat hidings for them.
Now they all moved into a glass-tank and the hidings are PVC-pipes (as used in the kitchen for water).

Kamil

That's a cool setup, Kamil. Can you describe how you made it? It looks like a strong plastic tub on its side. The front is Plexi-glass with hinges? How do you protect the plastic tub from the heat from the light?

Hi all,

this is a tub used at construction sites to mix concrete. It costs about 6€ and keeps up to 90l of water. I turned it with the open side to the front, and closed that with plexiglass. The bottom of the Plexiglass is mounted with screws to the tub. The upper part can be taken away. On the new "top" is a whole which provides some fresh-air. The Light is a LED-light pretty expensive for the fact that it's very weak. But so I have nearly no electricity consumption (the LED-light has 1W !) and especially no heat. Next to the light there is a PC-fan installed that blows air into the tank. It is plugged into the same clock timer as the light is. Out of the right side there comes a small pipe which provides the tank with water. It is like a raining systems but easier to build and much cheaper.

If you want I can upload further pictures.

Best Greetings,

Kamil

It's cool! Kamil!
And how often you see your little pets come out from their hiding cave?
It seems I never see my Sean unless I got to take out his cave for cleaning.

Hi,

the soil was too high and so they never had to come up. So now they got a new tank. They have now nearly no soil for burrowing, but some leaves on the floor. As hiding places I give them PVC-pipes. That was a nice tip of a friend and the macs always are in this pipes - easy to check after :)

Best Greetings,

Kamil

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
