What age can I start giving earthworms? Are bait shop earthworms suitable? I hate the blood worms. Such a pain to clean up. Are they sold I. Different sizes? My axies are 3.5 inches. How big do the worms need to be??

You can chop earth worms if necessary and feed them to your axie at that size. The pieces should be no longer than the axies head is wide (although some axies have no trouble with much larger pieces.)

As long as the bait shop worms don't have chemicals, they should be fine. You can google different brands - some state that their bait worms are safe for pets.

You can dig your own earth worms, but only where chemicals (weed killer, insecticide, etc.) haven't been used.

I recommend you avoid the red wigglers since many axies don't like them (they stink and taste bad).

I bought some trout worms from my local fishing store. I then started a wormery to reproduce worms. My axie loves them and i chop them in half. My axie is about 6 inches long and he's has no problem eating a worm that's cut in half its about 3 inches. Also my axie eats 2 full worms and a cube of blood worms every 2-3 days. If you havent yet try a turkey baster to get blood worms from the bottom of tank and a net to get the floaters.

My axolotl is about 4 inch and refuses to eat any earthworms . I've tried different kinds as I've heard that some may have a bad taste for axies. I've tried small ones, chopped them into smaller peaces and nothing. He takes the earthworm into him mouth and then spits it out.

Currently I have him on a diet of frozen and live blood worms, but I would really like to change to earthworm as blood worms mess up the tank.

Does anyone have any idea why he does not want to eat them ?

Thanks I'll try blanching them .
