I just got my new T. shanjing newts today. After a vivarium disaster a couple days ago on a set up that I've been cycling, I had to start over. (details in the vivarium thread). Last night as I was setting up a temporary tank in anticipation of their arrival ( I was told they would be in on the third of November), I got a call. "They're in, come and get them". So my son and I picked them up this morning. Put them in the habitat, they proceeded to run around as much as a newt can checking things out. and about two hours later they were both sitting in the front staring out the glass, so I decided to try to feed them. 1 1/2 night crawlers later between the two they wandered off to take a nap in the plants. I'm amazed, I've read that they usually take a while to get used to their new home before they would eat. Or at least settle down from their trip on a fedex truck. Seems like they settled right in. Anyway just wanted to share that. I'll put up some pictures once I figure out how to post them. (took ten minutes for me to type this post with one finger). :D

P.S I hope this is the appropriate place to post this, could find a general discussion area in the index.

I'm glad to hear that they arrived and have settled in well. Be sure the temporary tank is 100% escape-proof, just to be safe.

Yes it is escape proof. It's a 10 gallon with a locking screen top. They're gonna be in there for a while so i made a decent temporary setup. These guys are a little bigger than i was expecting, (maturity wise). The smaller one is approx 4" and the Larger one is approx. 5". Both are fat and happy. They ate again this morning. Every time i walk by they're both at the glass waiting to be fed. The larger one checks out the worm for a while before it eats it. The smaller one gobbles them down immediatly. And then they both took a dip in the water. I'm furiously working on the 40 gallon, so i can give them more room to roam. :D
