About a year ago, we thought we'd buy an axolotl because they were really cute and unusual. Then we thought "Why not two?" And now there's four. This has taken a lot of self restraint, I'm sure I'll have a houseful by next year! :D

Anyway, without further ado, here's Marmennill (a wild type or melanoid?) and Gullinbursti my shy little albino. They're both so small.(2.5-3 inches) With my older ones at least 7 inches now I forgot how tadpole-ish and teeny they were at first.

So looking further it seems our Marm is a wild type due to the shiny ring around the eyes? I love this little cutie, but my husband really wanted a melanoid (I think he's trying to collect one of every type) Is there some kind of etiquette here for asking the breeder to send one of the type we asked for? I didn't find them here, which I guess was a mistake, but they said they had melanoid and albino babies, so I was trying to save on shipping getting them both from the same place. Don't worry though, even if we do get a melanoid as well, this little one is already a part of the family!

I would contact them and tell them they sent you a wildtype (which you're little guy definetly is) instead of the melanoid you paid for.
A good breeder will resend you the correct animal.

I'm convinced these guys should come with a warning label o_O

⚠"Axolotls are Extremely Addictive" lol

I started with a free egg on a plant & now have 17 in the house  & am picking up 6 more today  it was only meant to be be more today but I'm taking in 4 lotls who are all currently in a fish bowl due to a relationship breakup :( couldn't say no.
7 are looking for homes & only here temporarily but that number was 9 but 2 have already wormed their way into our hearts so far .... lol :)

I had 2. Now I have 11 adults, 40 juveniles, and a tub of hatchlings :D

I swore I was never going to get any more axolotls after I lost my adults.

Now I have 10...

HAHA

uuuhhhh I have 7.16.7
and another 15 i'm axolotl boarding.
as well as the 2.4 A.Andersoni
and the batch of Emily's hybrids.

Oh my! I told my husband when we get a bigger house I can have hundreds of axolotl babies everywhere.:D But maybe I'll wait until the kids are bigger and can clean the tanks for me. I worked at a local pet store for a while and my husband gave me a "no legs" rule which basically meant I was limited to fish, or I would have every table and counter top covered in cages and aquariums. They're just so much fun!

Haha, I must agree with the addictive part...

Originally I was going to get 2.
Then 3.
Then 5.
5 turned into 6.
6 turned into 6 + >50 eggs......

Mind you I'm not keeping all the hatchlings! But still >.> Beware!

Omg, this is too funny. It is so true they are very addicting. I am sure the fact my boyfriend and I currently aren't living together is the only reason our 9 has stayed 9, lol. They are an awesome animal!

I'm even getting other people addicted now! My mom-in-law has oohed and awwed over ours since we got them and this month she'll be getting her first baby. I made sure to tell her about the awesome people over here on the forum so she'll be all set. We'll see how long it takes before she gets another one. Or twelve!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
