My axoltl eggs finished hatching today all look fairly healthy some even had their first meal. 1 golden albino has a red dot on its tail also the tail has an indent at top and bottem edge so the tip looks slightly spaded. Did my little baby get an injury some how or is this red dot something to be concerned about. It does not appear to be a color spot.

I think the tail might have been injured

those are some very blurry pics but if they just hatched I wouldn't be surprised if you have some mutant or deformed hatchlings. they usually won't live long and some won't eat and are obvious after the first feeding. Its really amazing how even the most deformed baby can get out of its egg.

I did try to get clear photos but will try again. I did have one that was a spinner, this one with the red spot who is eating well, and one white albino who literally has a bump on it's head that I am watching closely. The spinner has been euthinized, the yellow albino above appears ok and swimming well. The one with the bump on it's head???. This is my first time raising from eggs.

The problem with holding onto a 'weird' hatchling to see how it develop is that you tend to get attached to them! I did it with some of my odd babies this time and ended up with a dwarf and 7 others who refused to grow back missing limbs. Now they are almost fully grown and I'm having real trouble rehoming them - I'm keeping 2 but still have 3 'special' axies still looking for new homes.

Please don't be afraid to cull deformed or sickly babies, I know it seems a shame, but they wouldn't survive in the wild and TBH with the exception of a dwarf not many people want a deformed axie.

I have euthinized 1 already it was a spinner. I am giving them descriptive names so I can keep track as I got eggs from 2 different batches of unrelated parents. I think spot will be ok but not sure about bump. Here are some pictures. It is the clearest I was able to get, I tried both a zoom and macro lens along with adobe photoshop.

Yeah those types don't have mouths and will die in a few days. They've turned up in my batches of eggs too. Something didn't form correctly or fully during development.

It is very hard to see the mouths on any of them. When I give them BBS they seem to do a little hop. Bump is doing the same thing but I look for the orrande/pink belly to know they have eaten. I have not seen that on bump yet who is about 36 hours old now. I also haven't seen anything that looks like eyes either.

Yeah they tend to lung forward to eat which bump will still do but he's not actually eating since he lacks a mouth.

So you would euthinize? I do not want bump to suffer if it can't eat. :( I have 1 more that hasn't eaten yet but is only 24 hours old the rest have orange/pink bellies.

Thank you every one for helping me. I am going to see how Spot does who is eating and swimming just fine. RIP Dizzy (spinner) & Bump.

So bump died soon after? Poor baby
