Hi guys, got my little fella(ette?) this morning and he's doing good
I've decided it Vince (throwing caution to the wind that 'he' might be a female once it gets a little older)

Been inspecting his new home readily all day and i fed him 2 (thawed) frozen cubes of bloodworm before college.

I took the pictures this evening so the light was not the best, but i'll borrow the old man's SLR tomorrow and get some good ones in the light.

Re: First Axie : )

She looks very healthy. I couldn't see it that right, but it looks like a female. Maybe you can get a better pic?

Yeah, i believe at the moment it's looking like a female too, but s/he's only around 15 cm and - if what the pet shop worker told me - s/he's only around 5 months, though there's no sure way to tell.

Though if you could tell as early as this i'll get a good side on picture tomorrow

Hi Congratulations :D
He looks lovely! Very healthy.
In my opinion I would say a little too young to sex yet.
I would agree with the age tho about 5-6 months at 15cm maybe even a little bit older but it all depends on diet etc, he looks like he was well looked after before you got him.
Now.......how long before you decide to upgrade and get more haha.
They are soooo addictive.

Mel

I agree, lovely looking axie, I love the iridescence (sp?) on his gills.

Yeah, i was thinking it was a little too young to sex as of yet too Mel.
Haha, i'm already looking at prospective new caudates to get, though i think i'll wait until uni, but i've got my eye on getting some T.Shanjing or possibly some C.Phyrroghaster.

Thanks for your nice words guys  I'm really happy with it.
I agree he was kept well at the shop too, which was a nice change from seeing many shops selling axo's and fish in badly kept condition. they were feeding him Mussels which was a bit odd, but he seemed to eat them?

Yeah, the almost sparkly bits on his gills are really unusual

I'm currently feeding it every other day with bloodworms, until i can get out and find some worms or i get some online but it being snowing here, i'll leave it for a bit : P
Is every other day ok? or should i increase / decrease feeding do you think?

Congratulations on getting your first axolotl! I'm sure that you'll find it hard not to spend all your time around the tank now!

S/he is utterly beautiful. I normally find wildtypes a little bit scary, but Vince is wonderful. I adore the stunning shine of his/her gills!

Hiya. As long as his body is as wide as his head your feeding him enough. If its a lot less, you can up it to daily. but doesn't look it at the mo - he looks nice and chunky, Mel

nice axie! it looks like he/ she is smiling  :ufo:
