Do you have a black Axie? Mine is black, I wouldn't know how it's black skin would fair against the black sand. Can you see it really well? The albino looks outstanding! Soo cute too!

How are the guppies doing in the cold water? (What's the temp?) If yours are doing alright maybe I'll raise the water level in my axie tank and chuck my guppies in there too *grin*

The albino looks gorgeous on the black sand, maybe add some white pebbles to show off the black axie

These guppies were bred and born in that tank. I had a crayfish with them and the temperature has always been 65-68 since their birth. They can take up to 65 at most but if it goes below their colours change which is the first warning sign to raise the heater temperature. currently i need to add cold water two-three times a day cause its really hot here or ice bottles for that matter.

Keep us updated if they survive with the axies :D My axolotl tank hovers between 65-68F as well although my guppies live with my tropical fish at about 77F.

If yours go unmolested (and if they don't nibble axie gills) I'll give it a go too.

Dev, was you tank precycled before you added the Axolotls? Their tank needs to be precycled, otherwise it will pose problems. there are lots of tips on this site how to precycle a tank. If you freeze part of the cycled tank water and add it to the tank, this will help as long as it isn't too much. I have my coolign regulated to a T, as I use frozen water bottles, and frozen tank water. I replace the bottles as soon as they are melted, this way there isn't a dramatic temp difference, i add about 5 different bottles in the water, most of them 24 oz, the others are small water bottls. I only use the frozen tanke water during the morning hourse, as it heats up. The tank water stays around 64-65 degrees. I keep a lot of extra bottles of frozen water handy. For me, I have found that if I add the bottles and close the lid, the lid traps the cool in the tank. If I don't keep the tank cool, the lid keeps the heat trapped in. Weird

At anyrate, I hope this will help you. I have haven't had a single problem with my water quality other than I had some flat worms in the tank, they're still there, but their numbers have dropped since I have been scrubbing the tank walls everyday and double check ups on tank cleanlyness. My Axies eat like little elephants, and they're happy

Mr. Nibbles my wild type Axolotl which I got before my other two tonight tried to eat one of my Otocinclus! He had the tiny thing in his mouth and couldn't swollow it for some reason, he just sat there with it stuck in his mouth! I didn't knwo what to do, finally I reached my hand in the tank and gently pulled the little thing free, and lucky enough it was fine and swimming around
happy.gif
I don't know how he managned to sneak up on it, Otocinclus are very fast! Pretty funny and sad though ^_^::

I reckon if the guppies were born and bred in that tank, it would be well and truly cycled by now
happy.gif

Lol, Sorry, I didn't even see the post aboves, how tired am i right now
lol.gif
Silly Me. I tinkered with the last two films and I was able to view them! So cute! I love how the fish look like they're trying to get a bit of the albino Axies food
happy.gif
The music fit perfectly when he was chow'en down on his food lol. Great job! I think I might get some black sand if it looks great with the black Axie, and some large sea glass and glass Mossiac tiles to put in with it. It will look lovey
happy.gif

Ok, I don't how how he did it again, but Mr. Nibbles caught my Otocinclus again Dang nabit! it's all the way in his mouth, he's just holding it in there, so I can't do anything about it. I feed him twice a day two big meals, so I don't know why he did that. Now I only have one Otocinclus left
sad.gif
. Poorthings. Tonight I fed My Axies earthworms and their once a week cricket treats, so Mr. Nibbles is very spoiled tonight with his Otocinclus Dessert since I can't do anything about it and hope he spits it out alive.

thanks for the nice comments

The guppies dont hover much down cause they were baby fry living with a cray so they always have been top dwellers thanks to the cray chasing them, but he never did kill any of my guppies surprisingly the cray could never catch them. the guppies are still growing they are probably 4-5 months old, havent fully got colour yet. I usually hand feed my axies or use tongs so that the fish dont chase their food and mind their own business.
Other than that the guppies just fear the axies and dont nipp. Usually guppies are aggresive but i dont know if its the fact that they always lived with a carnivore and knew the bottom never belonged to them, I cant answer that for certain, but if you go to a fish store and buy a guppy it attacks everything in my opnion like their parents did.

Might i add i have 2 tetras in there they are very peaceful, I would say more peaceful than guppies generally but an easy prey for the axies i would suppose. My cray did eat 2 of them, but you can try housing tetras with axies cause they dont nipp and are scared of anything larger than them. Plus they have small mouths so they only eat crushed flakes they wont bother nipping at the salmon pellets, well mine dont at least.

But i would not add fish like people have mentioned all over this board and the faqs, I didnt have a choice the fish were always there; my cray died of old age but I have another baby blue cray so i decided to get something different.

Guppies

otocincus? o the tank looks great dev and your axies good luck with them are they your first? if so feel free to post any questions you have ok. welcome to the forum.

Hey, I watched the eating film againg. It looks like the Axis is the one who is singing! lol. The fish are his groupies, the camera pans over the other singer for him to take his line, it's great! Very dramaic, you made an Axie music video.
Nathan, Otocinclus are very small peaceful catfish algae eaters. They are so peaceful and are very fast. They do not get big at all and stay so very small. They prefere warmer waters, but mine do very well in the cooler water I have in my tank. They eat really well, but now i only have one left as my Axie actually did make a meal out of the one he trapped in his mouth. He's not getting breakfast from me! lol. If you would like to do more, you can do a yahoo image search on them, there are some lovely photos online of them
happy.gif

Otocinclus ahhh ottos never heard someone say the whole name hehe. Yeah they arent bad, pretty peaceful

Hey Rheann, how did you tinker with those films?

Hello!!! I'm new to this website and idk how to ask a proper question on the designated spot yet, so I'll ask here, I'm a first time Axolotl owner, and my dad used to run an aquarium store, anyways... Orca, my Axolotl, seems to loose parts of her toes on one limb from time to time, I can't seem to find the problem. Tempature is well, she doesn't seem to have any infections or anything, though. And I'm not sure if I'll be able to find a vet in Brazil for amphibians that are in a reasonable distance to drive without stressing Orca out too much

Hello, I’m hoping for some advice please. Our Axolotl is about 7 months old. Till now no problem. Eating, growing and happy. He’s simply stopped eating. Everything looks fine, his gills look healthy and no apparent signs of sickness. He just swims past the pellets and bloodworm like he can’t smell it. I don’t think it’s a blockage either. Any ideas and suggestions for treatment would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
