vefy light golden albino. very cute! I'd say he's male cause he is thin and not rounded, do you have a better pic of his cloaca? itd be easier to tell that way

That is not a golden albino. It is just a very light form of a wildtype. I have a similarly coloured one, though not as light as yours.

How large is the axolotl? It looks small in the first picture but large in the second. It may be too young to determine the age.

I'm gonna have to go with Skylar, I think he's a male too. The axie looks like it has a large cloaca. It's hard too see, but I think I can make it out. Ahh... what do I know? I'm a new member.

Also, I just realised that you have very small gravel in your tank. I would remove this immediately and replace it with sand, large river stones (can be a bit of pain trying to clean) or just go with no substrate at all.

Ingestion of gravel can cause serious problems, do a search for topics about axolotls swallowing gravel, there are quite a few.

i got told that the gravel will be ok that it will go right through their system or someting:S?. i don't think he is that young, he is about 15 cms, and he is starting to get black fingernails.

Are the eyes pink or black? It's hard to tell from the photos. The body color is interesting.

Depending on what method you use to feed your axolotl, it almost certainly WILL ingest some of the gravel. An occasional piece will probably go through, as you suggest. However, if you feed it by just tossing the food in, it could ingest enough gravel to cause serious problems. I would strongly encourage you to either change the gravel OR set up a feeding system that prevents ingestion: either feed it by hand away from the bottom, or feed it from a feeding dish or bowl placed in the tank.

Nice axie - looks like mine heehee

Only mines abit darker (all over).

It doesnt look albino, i dnt think it is anyway.
Besides being a tad darker, mine is the exactly the same as yours. Depending on what angle the photo is taken from, the eyes look pink and glow. Other times, its shows his natural eye colour - its wierd!

Either way nice axie. And pooike's a cute name too

Did anyone decide what colour this is? I saw one coloured the same in the petshop this morning. It had black eyes. I came SOOO close to buying it- my tank still is not cycled tho so i would have regretted it no doubt.

I'd say a light wildtype. looks light a paler version of my juliet

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
