Hello! I am a new Axolotl owner and want the best for my Axie. He is swimming around quite a bit but it doesnt seem frantic. Is that normal? Also what lights are okay for them? I want to get led lights for my room but im not sure if its okay for them. I keep him in the dark and make sure very little light is on him already. And if anyone has any tips or advice i would well appreciate it. Thank you!

provided your axolotl has cave/hides to go into any type of lighting is fine although led lighting is more economical and produces less heat.

Hides and caves like wolfen said. Also, consider using duckweed and tank feeder portals. This will give him more shade. There are also LED lights you can get which simulate day-nighttime and sunrise/sunset which are recommended for axolotls.

How old is your axolotl? Younger axolotls tend to be more inquisitive than adults. Some adults are just more energetic. Axoltols are like people and have varying personalities.

as long as he doesn't seem distressed and parameters are fine, he should be okay. sometimes they just have little bursts of energy.
i have an overhead light on my tank, and it's on 24/7. generally i wouldn't reccomend bright lights, but my axolotl has a very densely planted tank and can find darkness very easily. LEDs in your room should be fine, just try to avoid flashing.
