My question is , what do I feed it? Don't get me wrong, I know to provide small food prey like very small crickets, fruit flies, maggots, waxworms, etc. I guess I want to know what has been most successful as a dietary choice from someone who has kept this species.
Thanks in advance!

Earthworms are ideal, but crickets, silverfish, firebrats and the like are good too! Remember, If it moves, they will eat it! Judging by your locale, woodlice are also an easily acquired food source.

For newly metamorphosed A. texanum, small earthworms half the diameter of the width of the head of your salamander would be ideal.

For A. barbouri, I would say the same; however, I noticed that this species is more likely to go after various arthropods than its close cousin, A. texanum.

Since you are a native of Ohio I thought it might be worth mentioning both species.
