Just wanted to post a few photos of my custom aquarium and cabinet.

The tank is 2000x450x500mm and is home to 5 sub-adult axolotls. We made the cabinet to encompass and hide the Teco chiller and Eheim external filter.

The axolotls have been slowly added over the last couple of days and seem to be getting along famously, which is good as most of them had been living by themselves previously.

I made the aquarium at work to consolidate the 4 tanks that the axolotls had been living in previously.

We hope they enjoy their new home and each others company.

That's absolutely fantastic. The fact it's home made only adds to the awesomeness.

Chiller + Nice filter + uber long tank, What lucky little Axies! Spolit they are.

p.s. I like how you've gone to the trouble to incorporate the tubing into the side of the tank instead of over the top. I take it you work with glass?

Well done buddy, you're clearly a keeper to aspire too.

Wow, fantastic tank. Very lucky axies.

Wow! That's a nice tank!

PS. In the last photo, are the pieces of white plastic (sections of guttering?) on the floor the beginnings of DIY axie-hides?

Five words.

My Wife Would Kill Me.

:)

Seriously cool tank!

Thanks for the compliments guys! Yep, I work with glass and aluminium, this is my first aquarium though.

They sure are, my girlfriend has made one so far, shes covered it in small stones and fake plants. Looks a little more natural than the PVC.

that is a great tank. Your axies are going to love living there. My kids love it as well.

Absolutely beautiful tank! I'm so jealous...all these talented members out here! :D

@Lea...you keep your kids in a tank? lol...jk

Thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

I bought some submersible led lights for the tank yesterday. I reckon they look great and the axolotls seem completely unbothered by them.

Would there be any signs to show they were affected by the lights that I may have overlooked? They don't seem to be spending any longer than usual in or out of hiding, aren't swimming any more than usual and appear to be eating fine.

The lights are only going to be on for a couple of hours a day at maximum, but if they are going to cause any stress I will do away with them.

Cheers.

This is sooo making me want to get rid of the dining table and get a huge tank! :D (i mean what do we use it for anyway....lol)

I wouldn't think the lights are bothering them to be honest.
I've been putting my lights on more through the day to help with plant growth and none of mine are phased by it anymore. They have hides they can use but they dont seem to spend more time in them when the lights are on.

Absolutely fantastic! Flippin brilliant! Awesome! So jealous, if I wanted one like that I would have to go out and buy a whole new house first!

Whoa! I wish I had room for a tank like that. That's so cool.

Killer tank!
I see more and more people making big tanks these days and with the cost I don't blame 'em. I never got into finding out but how do you do it?

How do you make sure everything is square and how do you get it to stay together while the silicone is curing?

Hello,

I used timber to make braces to fit over the top of the glass and a large sheet of MDF as a base.

I stuck eight 3mm rubber blocks (called setting blocks or glazing blocks) to separate the sheets of glass where they met at the top and at the base.

I siliconed it all together and let it cure before adding the horizontal supports.

please excuse my poor drawing skills.
