hey i have 2 cfbn for the past 4 months and i am yet to see them eat, i often fing black poo in the tank, is it supposed to be dark and blobby? (i know this is a silly q but i`m curious)
also, how deep should the water be, i have it bout 5 centimetres- that ok?

Hannah, what are you feeding them? Do they look more skinny? Yes, that sounds like poo, so either they are eating something, or else it's just residual material from what was in their bellies before you got them (slow metabolism). If they are aquatic, their water could be (and probably should be) deeper. Read the FAQ here:

I also have a cfbn, and i rarely see him eat. I don't know if its because he is shy, but the food is always gone if I leave him alone for awhile. Also, mine only eats once every few days, which I hear is pretty normal. I don't know how often you feed yours. I agree with Jennifer about the water though, I have mine in at about five or so inches, so I make sure he has room to swim around, just make sure you have somewhere that he can crawl out of the water if he wants to.

ya they have a rock island, i feed them freeze dried blood worms and brine shrimp. the shrimp disappears so i think they like it more. i feed them every 3 days. one is fat and one is skinny the way he was when we bought him. they only recently started staying in the water- i used to wet them incase they got too dry.
thanx.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
