The newt that has been having health problems is now sick in a different way. He eats barely half of what I feed him (1 cube of bloodworms) whereas the others eat it up right quick. Also when I moved him to feed him he did go into the defensive position slightly, but he was extremely uncoordinated and twitchy. When he swims he is spaztic, and swims upside down. I don't believe it is bloat anymore, as he is now very thin.

I reintroduced him to the others last Friday, and they all seem well still. Should I remove him again? I would really appreciate help on this one. I don't like to think that he could be suffering. :( Thank you.

I would separate it from the group until it is eating well and gained some weight.

If he's still swimming spasticly and upside down, he won't do well in an ordinary tank. I think he needs to be kept where he will be comfortable - either very shallow water or wet paper towels. Is he willing to hand-feed?

He seems, from my perspective, happier back in the big tank. Are newts social creatures? They seem to love their cuddle puddles.

I will get a small set up for him very soon, and keep him there as advised. I feel horrible keeping him in the super tiny one I have now (barely enough room to stretch out, 10" x 4" x 6" high). I do not know if he would hand feed or not. Holding him to get him to the feeding areas seems to stress him out quite a bit. How would I hand feed him with blood worms? Just put a little pile on my hand?

Thanks for the advice, I very much appreciate it.
