Here's a picture of one of mine, I couldn't resist posting it here too because I just put them up in my blog. I was wondering. In the care sheets, they only talk about the yellow ones. Are these orange ones just variants, or do they have their own scientific name? Do they exist in the same regions as the yellow ones, or are they in separate geographic regions?

Hey Dawn,
They look great! I'm not sure about the orange spots but read this http://www.caudata.org/forum/messages/13/5786.html?1067801912 the 6th post down says something about orange spots, it said when they are fed Gammarus they get more orange spots, what are you feeding them. I don't really know if this a true fact.

i think i like the orange spoted versoin better then the yellow ones, great looking newts by the way

I think the orange comes from the food. Mine get mostly blackworms and look pretty orange.

Well, I've been switching all my newts over to troutworms. We'll see what happens.

I've always had a crazy thought. What if you mixed worms in blue food die? Would the spots turn blue?

i dont think that would have any effect, because if that were the case my wife would be the color of pink cupcakes!

I guess not. It works on some insects though.
