Netting spanish ribbed newt larvae

Hi!
I'm raising spanish ribbed newts for the first time, and it has become time consuming to remove them individually for cleaning their tanks. Does anyone have suggestions for what type of net to use and how old they must be in order to not damage their gills?

When I need to do a water change, I leave the newt larva in the tank, and siphon about half the water. Occasionally one will go through the siphon, but since I am siphoning into a bucket, they are easily recovered.
