One of my larvae keeps floating to the top of the water for some reason. It was fine this morning but when i just checked it was floating on the top and everytime it swims back to the bottom it automatically floats back to the top. And my larvae are dieing one by one for some reason 1 every day or 2 and i dont no why! they are eating daphnia and seem to all be fine but then during the day I will check on them and one of them wont move much. Its the same thing everytime. It just stops moving but is still alive because it moves a little and when i genetly try to move it sometimes it just rolls on its back. Need help!!

Never mind the one that was floating isn't floating anymore i don't no what it was doing but its swimming around now. But i still have the problem with 1 dieing almost every day!

Hi Nathan,

How old are your larvae? Someone has insisted to me that daphnia are too large for very young larvae and that they must have newly hatched artemia instead. I feed mine daphnia, too, because I didn't want to go to the trouble of breeding artemia and the artemia I could buy at the pet shop was not newly hatched (i.e., too big for larvae). Most of mine have done fine but many did not and even now, several look "younger" (smaller, less developed) that the others, so there might be something to the theory.

Occasionally larvae develop air bubbles in their stomach area, you can usually see the bubble. This may be due to there being too large a gap between feeds or water may be being a little too warm. Sometimes the bubble will go and the larvae will be fine, but occasionally it may be fatal.
