and soon, i need a link somewhere that will list each state and the number of salamanders in it. i can find bits and pieces all over but no definitive one, i need this by wed noon colorado time. i have to come up with 2 sets of data to create a map for cartography final project, all i need to turn in tomorrow is the data sets. i am hoping i can find a dependent link between annual or average rainfall and the number of species.....if you guys dont think that is a valid relationship (please tell why) and perhaps suggest another set of data.

i need 2 related variables for at least 30 geographic locations. i know that hawaii will throw off the data for my idea but hey-its a start. if anyone is needing a map created and has data that meets this i'll be glad to take on that data for my project-i will need references for the data unless it is personally collected then i will need your name and date of survey.

with the idea of rainfall -does someone know of how to find a list that differentiates between rainfall and snow fall?

This is just an opinion, but I really don't think you should use "states" unless you have too. For instance it might make sense to divide California into Western Forest and Seirra Nevada. Likewise it might make sense to have Northwestern Forest instead of Oregan and Washington. I know you probably don't have time to do this, you just might see a cool effect then.

For species lists in the west I'd just use the Westen Reptile and Amphibian Field Guide by Dr. Stebbins. The range maps are all accurate and the species information is up to date minus stuff that wasn't described or very new info.

yeah sorry i wanted to do the rainfall areas across the us, but i am reading this again and it says at least 30 geographical locations....so any ideas?

I was just worried that with so many 0/low number states it might throw off an effect of rainfall/species diversity.

Oh BTW I think there will be a valid relationship. The correlation might not show up though from what I was worried about from the above.

Hey everyone, just want a little advice. Its 55 - 60 celcius in my Salamanders tank. Hes curled up and tyring ti bury himself, Im assuming hes too cold. I was wondering if he would benefit from a heated rock cave (since he LOVES his cave) that I could set on low? I NEVER see him curled up and trying to bury himself unless his tank sits at 63 degrees celcius or lower. So I am assuming hes a little uncomfortable.

He also seems a little sluggish, again, assuming hes cold. Having heating trouble with the new house right now. What do we think? Was thinking of grabbing this for him since its got very low, medium, and higher medium heat settings that exude heat downward inside the rock cave but ALSO exudes it UPWARDS outside of the rock cave, effectively keeping the tank itself a little warm. Seems like it miiiight be a little small for him though, my guy is about 7 inches from tip of his nose tothe tip of his tail. I also asked this as an actual question in a thread in case anyone wants to answer it there instead of here
