Amazingly enough, the two persistently land dwelling N.v.v. instantly started looking at the water when I moved them to their new larger enclosure. One was even so bold to jump in, though his skin is not really ready for it.

Here are a few pics:

is that very fine sand you are using? what type of plants? ans nice rock thing. beautiful tank.

The bottom is partially covered with sand (large grains), I usually get the finer sand but it wasn't available. I haven't really noticed any problems with this sand because it's nice and round and still fairly small.

The rock thing is a large piece of cork. It floats in the tank resting on the land part on one side providing a way in and out of the water.

I am using water hyacinth and a floating fern called salvinia natans. Other than that I have one relatively strong aquatic plant "Ceratophyllum demersum" common name is coontail or hornwort. It's a plant that survives well even in low light conditions (so far at least). I hope to get more of it, even though I would prefer to have softer leaved plants for my newts. However, those tend to not do so well in the light available to them.
