These newts are so awesome looking. I just got a pair and had a holiday dinner yesterday, so 10 members of my family saw them. They couldn't believe them either. My brother accused me of painting my firebelly newts and trying to pass them off as new newts. Even my mother said "wow" and the only word she's ever used for my other newts was "eew"!
Are those offspring from this past year, or an older group, Michael? I see some breeding color on at least one male in the group, so they look like they might be "ready for action". Be sure to get them really cold this winter (50F or below).
I have a bunch of juveniles and a bunch of adults. I hope the adults breed this year. They are acting like it. The tanks are down to about 62F but it hasn't been cold hear. I might have to move a couple pair to the coldest spot in the basement. What is the warmest temp they will breed at?
Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
