Two of my newts died within a day to causes I can't seem to figure out what exactly could have caused this to happen. A symptom that only appeared when I found the newts dead was a swollen throat, but they didn't show any sort of symptom the previous day when I fed them (I found them dead in the morning).
There is one surviving newt, who I immediately put into a separate prepare tank.

I'm just really confused on what might be the cause, since nothing much has changed since I received them a month ago. They didn't show any such symptoms up until today when I found them.

The cause is what I would call "being a Notophtalmus in captivity". I have certainly had some similar heartbreaks with this genus, and have never been able to identify a cause.

When a newt dies in the water, its throat is usually swollen when it is found. I do not think this gives any clues to the cause of death.

Sorry I can't be more helpful, but this is a difficult genus of newts. Sometimes they live for years trouble-free, but there are often these incidents where they die under good conditions for no reason.

This is surprisingly common in europe with the imports. Some people hace success, but it´s rare, the majority don´t do well at all. The reason is clear, which is unfortunate.
Sorry the poor bugger died...
