Mysterious black stuff?

I recently took all the sand out of my aquarium and have just a clean bottom. Ever since this the aquarium has been giving me difficulties. This morning I woke up to the filter going crazy and all this black pellet looking stuff all over the bottom and on the plants and decor. Its not carbon, and I don't know if its their dropping that have come apart and turned to this weird black stuff. Please help.

Yep, that's droppings. When axolotls are young, their poop tends to disintegrate after a period of time. Pain in the butt to clean, but it's nothing too bad.

Well my guys aren't too young anymore. They're going on 4 years. That's what I thought it was. One likes to go in the plants so I don't often get to it before it turns to powder. Its a hunt every time for his little droppings haha
