So... I've been curious.

Do salamanders make sounds? I have a tiger, and all he does is make nails on chalkboard noises when he tries to scale the walls of his tank and slides down.

But like... can they or other salamanders and newts squeak or something?

I mean, he might be making sounds and I don't hear them, since I don't hear very well. But again, just curious.

Some species (especially Ambystomatids) will squeak, but it's not a vocalization, but rather air rushing through the mouth/throat.

My Notophthamus Viridescens squeak all the time! It's very interesting.

The squeaking is found in most families. It´s the only sound they can manage.

Sometimes my T. karelinii "squeak" when I pick them up to move them. It's always funny when that happens, because they are usually very silent. Every once in a while there is a plop sound from the aquarium though . . . must be roughhousing or something.
