My tiger

I wanted to share a couple of pictures of my new tiger salamander with all of you. Can anybody tell me what sort of tiger this is? He/she seems healthy to my novice eye, and seems to be comfortable in his new home. He has eaten (a nightcrawler), soaked, explored, and burrowed, all of which seem appropriate behaviour, I would think. Any comments would be most welcome.

Looks like a lovely setup. Make sure you change the water often.

Looks like a Blotched Tiger Salamander to me.
I would recommend maybe stacking some large flat rocks as a cave for him to hide in sometimes. Otherwise, he is likely to burrow into the dirt and make a mess, maybe even dig up the plants. He may even end up under your water dish. I have some tigers (see My Tigers and Their Setup, an earlier post in the Photos forum), and none of them dig up the dirt as long as I give them a few caves to hide under.
Good luck!

Sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to this thread. Tiggie is doing very well these days. He does burrow down under the dirt, but the plants are potted, and just as you suspected Mark, he likes to sleep under the water dish. He doesn't make any mess, though, and conveniently uses the water dish as a toilet, making cleanup a snap. He stayed buried for the first week or so, but he now comes out every evening and stays out most of the night. He happily accepts food from my fingers, and if I'm not careful about how I hold it, he happily attempts to eat my fingers, as well!

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
