My tanks and newts

First of all - my apologies for the quality of the pix. I'm still learning how to use my new digital camera

Also, apologies for how DIRTY the glass is on my tanks, hehe.

ETA: all the plants in the big tank are live; I'm working on converting the other two - there's a pothos ivy floating in all three, and I just put a cutting of my Anubias from the big tank into the 20gL the other day.

My 10g tank, housing Margaret, my female (I think?) CP:

Margaret herself:

My 20gL tank, housing 2 Pleurodeles:

Its inhabitants, Triton (m, on the left), and Steve (fem., on the right) - that's a hunk of rose quartz between them - I also collect rocks

And, finally, my 46g bowfront, housing 2 Tarichas and a LOT of duckweed

Lita (f, on the left), and Romeo (m, on the right), who seem to wonder what the heck I'm doing, hehe:

She's a CP
happy.gif
I couldn't get a belly shot this time around - she's really bright orange under there, with lots of little brown and black spots.

I meant to post this, as well - one of my dogs, Shelly, loves the tanks and the camera, and came to see what I was doing:

Margaret does not look like a c.p. I'm not really sure what she is, a warty newt of some sort. I'm not sure what kind though. Someone with more experience will be able to tell you what she is!

Ralf said the same thing in my other post about Margaret!

I went to Caudate Central and looked at all the pictures of CPs and Wartys - I think you and Ralf might be right...but some of the CPs and paramesotritons look SO much alike, and very much like Margaret.

I'm confused now, LOL!

Thanks

And here I was expecting people to tell me that she's a boy...I'm not entirely sure, myself.

ETA: wow, she looks a lot like the Hong Kong Warty Newts...

your tarichas are so thin compared to mine! I think I must be overfeeding mine... now I'm worried.

Hehe, don't worry too much, Carly. Mine are plump as well.

Margaret is definitely not Cynops pyrrhogaster. In my opinion, Paramesotriton hongkongensis is more obvious and right alternative. Is it possible to give us more detailed pictures about Margaret where it is fully represented, with tail too?

Carly, my Tarichas are too thin - don't worry about yours. I've been meddling with their feeding schedule the past few months - they were getting WAY too chunky, hehe...and they've just gotten a little thin. I'm feeding them more now, so they should plump out again
happy.gif

Ali - I'll post better pictures of Margaret as soon as I have them. But you're right - and you're the third person to have suggested this. I've done some research, and I'm fairly sure she is a P.Hongkongensis as well.

Yeah, i was right!!!...I'm kinda new with this, learning alot though....Good luck with Margaret (or Mark...

)!!

I agree with Aki, def try to get more pics. Then the wonderful people on here will be able to figure out what newt you have for sure!

I know - I love it here, everyone's so nice and smart and helpful

I'm 100% sure that she is a warty now - even if I can't post pics yet, I still know what she looks like, LOL!.

It's just so hard to get GOOD pictures of her - her tank is on the floor, and she's ALWAYS curled up in some plant or another to where I can't get a good full-body picture.

I really don't want to pull her out of the tank to take pictures, hehe.

I almost got a picture of her sleeping in her food bowl last night, but I was too slow

My female Taricha are full of eggs, while my male is still quite thin (more concerned with mating than eating). I have one juvenile female who just starting to plump up.

Taricha's look so sweet!!

I would like to keep some in the future.

They definitely are cute
happy.gif

Lita, the female Taricha, is also very playful - every time I go into the tank to feed them or clean or mess around with plants, she's ALL over my hand, climbing and biting (which just feels cute!) and trying to see if I have any food. The other day she grabbed onto my finger and wouldn't let go - I had to get my husband to give me some food to distract her.
biggrin.gif

Haha, my younger male, Isaac, grabbed onto my skimmer this morning and wouldn't let go so he went for a spin around the tank as I cleaned out some scum. I swear all tarichas think about is food.

My tarichas do that too, when I spot clean they BOTH grab hold of the baster and ride around until I pull them off. They share a ten gallon right now, which people say is okay, but since they're so playful I'd love to give them a better home. I'm moving off campus this summer and buying the biggest tank I can afford (a used aquarium store had a 125 gallon for 75 bucks a few weeks ago! imagine that!) I'd make water falls and all kinds of things for them to explore.
happy.gif
dork, I know

125 GALLON!!! Where would you put that??? Mine's a 15 gallon and it's HUGE to me.

Can you still get Tarichas at pet stores in Austin siren? I lived in Round Rock a few years ago and they were everywhere but in Houston there are none.

No, I haven't seen newts of any kind in the "big" PetStores for over a year now...and no Tarichas anywhere; but you can still find cynops orientalis at some local places. }
