what do you think? is it ok?

also i haven't seen my newts eat but i think the food goes at night (i couldn't find it burried in the substrate)

thanks

I think it looks like a pleasant environment for a newt. Fortunately, they can't identify the threatening firearm looming behind them! The yellow color in the water comes from the driftwood, and you will probably need to do extra water changes until that goes away. I would suggest that you could increase the water level by several centimeters. More water is usually better. I would worry about whether all of them are eating. Newts can go for months without eating, so you don't really know for sure. Do they all go in the water at least some of the time?

i have done a few water changes and it clearer now. i also hav silica sand on top of the gravel and they appear happier.

i saw one of them eat last night. it was funny watching it creep up on a frozen blood worm.

one of my newts doesn't like the water at all it is the smallest of the three in length. should i put some bloodworm next to it on the log?

You can try the bloodworms, but most likely you need to put something LIVE in front of it, such as a pile of live blackworms, pieces of chopped earthworm (still wiggling), or crickets (which may be too fast for it). Land-bound newts usually do not eat or grow as well, it's vexing. If you raise the water level, that might encourage it to start going in the water.

yay they are eating!

just one last question. what lighting can i use for my tank?

would a 15watt bulb in a desk lamp about 1ft above the tank be ok as long as it didn't increase the temp?

That is a perfect arrangement for lighting, especially if it's fluorescent. If it's incandescent, it's OK as long as you're sure it does not affect temp.

its incandescent and is good cos its not raising the temp.

jennewt what does ur setup look like u got any pictures?

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
