Heres is my tank. Its been running for 2 years now and never been a problem. Its is 400 Litres and is huge, its Very wide as long and tall lol, i have to use a chair to reach the bottom to clean or feed. And i am quite tall as it is XD Some may question my gravel choice but as i hand feed i dont see the problem. Ive not had a problem with it yet. All tho i am thinking of changing to sand when i get the money as i think it will look better. Im going to get a few more plants too =] I have 5 Axolotl in there, 2 White with blue eyes named pinky and clyde. 1 white albino named Albi, 2 wild types, 1 is olive colour with spots, he is called Inky and one is more of a silver colour named Blinky. You can see pictures of them in my profile, all tho i havent uploaded a pic of Albi yet but will do, as he is new and i havent had a chance to

Why people say to change to sand or a bare bottom is because axolotls snuffle around in the sand looking for food. It doesn't matter if you feed them above the gravel. They may still snuffle in the gravel and eat some rocks, thinking it may contain food. This is rare but also a very deadly and real threat. You should change the gravel out as soon as possible so none of your axolotls become prone to impaction.

I could almost bet you that when you switch to sand you will start finding gravel that the axolotls are passing. You will be amazed at how much they have ingested.

I am super jealous by the way, I would love to have a tank of that size.

Thanks guys , The filter is external it came with the tank, the filter is Aquis 1200. I love my filter, so easy to clean and is very good. My tank was brought for me by all my family as an christmas present =] It took me ages to fill haha. Your probably correct about the gravel, i will defiantly change it to sand as soon as i get a new job. i got made redundant by my old one because the company went bust. How ever i am due redundancy money so i could get the sand and more plants and bogwood =] I should be getting a golden axolotl soon, cant wait XD ive been looking for one for ages. :p

what an AWESOME tank it sooooo big! i wish i had a tank like that it must take ages to fill and clean out! i like the plants too! oh and your axies! :D

Thank you Tonimeloni, Yep when i first set the tank up it took me like 3-4 hours to sort it all out lol, but now when i do my weekly water change it takes abt 30-45 mins to clean, so not too bad.
