He's so vain!! Now Vogue!!

76498.jpg

Just swimming about!

76499.jpg

He's not very good at hiding!

He loves chilling in his fave spot

And what he does best. Posing!

The last pic was when he was having problems with his water colour, now sorted with some carbon in his filter.
He not very well at the mo. Got some fungus on his gills so he's having salt baths and getting even more pampered than he usually gets!

I like your guy and his tank. the large java fern is lovely. However, one of your plant is a bog rather than aquatic, it looks like a Dracaena(the green stalk plant with the white stripped leaves. It will eventually die and rot, ruining your water after several months. It will survive, however, if the leaves stay above water level or placed in a shallow or raise area if your aquarium is open topped.

Hi Adam,
"Steve" is cute.
Nice looking tank also.
Cheers,
Chris.

Hi guys, glad you like steve.

I don't know what the tall stalk plant is, i bought it from a proper aquarium centre rather than a pet shop and it was recommended to me as a plant requiring low light levels. The guys that work at the shop are always really helpful and seem to know their stuff. Are you sure it might not be another type of plant? if not i'll remove it straight away. The last thing i want is another problem with the tank! its bad enough that steve has a fungal infection! (He is getting better though, most of it fell off this morning).

I am pretty sure the plant is a Dracaena. I am not aware of any lowlight or coldwater plants with that shape (the stalk). The leaf shape is similar to a sword-type plant, but I doubt that, most need water above 20 degrees. They would sell that in a "proper aquarium" place because it is a bog or shallow water plant. It is not aquatic, and will die eventually if fully submerged. If you still have doubt, you can post a closer picture of it and I can get a better look. Infact, that stuff called "luck bamboo" is actually a Dracaena and not a real bamboo. As we all know, "lucky bamboo" will die if the whole plant is under the water.

I am so happy his fungus is leaving him. Its sure frustrating and heart breaking when an axolotl who gets a lot of love gets sick. Steve seems like a pretty swell fella.

AnnMarie, i looked on the internet for a while and can't find anything else that plant could possibly be. Cheers for pointing it out. It has now been removed!
Steve says thanks.

I am glad I can help. I am pretty good when it comes to plants, shrimps, and micro-organism if Steve has anymore questions about his home again.

I am just glad i didnt give wrong information, that would have been so embarssing. The plant cant make a nice houseplant, so you dont have to toss it.
