Having some fun with this:

my spell check always protests about newt names that it doesn't recognize. So if I let it substitute what it "thinks" I was "trying" to type instead, here is what happens:

marmoratus - marmosets
alpestris - peristalsis
vulgaris - vulgarians (yeah, makes sense)
strauchii - chinstrap (huh?)
chenggongensis - (it says "no spelling suggestions") har har, gave up, did ya?
cyanurus - centaurs
pyrrhogaster - housemaster  where did that come from?
cynops - synopses
Neurergus - neurosurgery
Triturus - Detritus :p
Lissotriton - peritonitis (yuck)
Hypselotriton - hyperinflation

...you get the idea: don't let your computer do your thinkin' ...any others?

now s'cuse me, I gotta feed the housemasters and see if the Neurosurgery chinstraps have laid any more eggs...

Ooooohohohohoh....behold the beginning of a new era of inside jokes!!!

ommatotriton - malnutrition (geez, I hope not...)

This really cheered me up after a long day spent re-doing my detritus tank, thanks, Molch!

...and I sure hope your marmosets are feeling better!

...and I hope your housemasters are breeding again.

Dear All, I would appreciate some help identifying P. waltl disease and treatment. We received newts from Europe early November and a few maybe 3/70 had what it looked like lesions under the legs- at that time we thought maybe it was the stress of travel- now we think they probably had "red leg syndrome" (see picture). However a few weeks later other newts started to develop skin lesions (picture enclosed). The sender recommended to use sulfamerazine and we have treated them 2x and we are not sure they are all recovering. Does anyone have any experience with P. waltl diseases and could give some input on this? Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

sorry I am having a hard time trying to upload the pictures- I have them saved on my hard drive... any suggestions-the prompts here are not allowing for downloads that way as far as I can tell. Thanks
