Nice display tank! I like it ;)
Just one question, what's the size of the tank?

Very Nishe....

I'd look at the "log" closely (you may already have done this) as I tried to get one a week ago but the 3 that they had in the Petsmart I went to all had EXTREMELY sharp internal edges at the openings. :mad: I may get one... but if they are all like that then I'm going to be filing/sanding/smoothing the inside edges.

@leanne: Yes, yes! Definitely gonna grab a lower wattage bulb. And I definitely will! I can't wait to get them!!! :D

@Jasper: Tanks! :3 It's a 45 gallon tank, that's good for like 2 or 3 axies right?

@Eric: Yessir, it is! :]

@Mac: Thaaaat's a very good point! Like I said, I'ma away atm, but I'll check it when I get back for sure. So can I just take a piece of sandpaper to it? Would that work? :p

Yeah, the tank size would be fine for 2-3 axies, you would just need to add more hides.

Oh, do they all need their own?

Yeah, pretty much. To avoid aggression towards one another, and the visual barriers help as well.

I see the waterlevel isn't reaching the aquarium top. I wonder, does Axolotls have a maximum waterlevel?

I personally have mine right to the top.Theres a lid on so they cant jump out, which i'm assuming is why people dont fill theirs up...?

They don't need the water all the way to the top, especially adults who primarily walk on the bottom, but you can as Mel describes. I find deeper water (larger volume) is easier to stabilize and keep cool.

Others probably have their own reasons for not filling their tanks completely, but I don't like the water all the way to the top because I don't like getting wet to my shoulder when hand feeding for one (I'm short and my stands are a little high - to keep small hands out). :eek: I also use zoo med 501s with spray bars that I like having above the water line and I like having distance between the aquarium lights and the surface of the water. Others use screen tops and or mount lights above the tops of their aquariums.

Set up looks good everything for a happy axie it is recommended to have at least one hide per axolotl big enough to hide thier whole body away from light. I use a 15w blue moon moonlight tube with the refelctor strip in it and install it in reverse directing the light away from the water it is very dim but plenty bright enough to see my lil monster it doesnt bother him in the slightest!

Ok, thanks for the reply. When I (hopefully) buy one the comming months, I will fill it to the top and put lots of floating plants in it so the Ax won't be frightened when the light goes on.

I like your setup wish i could afford a tank that sort of size! would be a good move filling it up and getting those floating plants as shade as you said if you dont want your axies hiding all day, As for bulbs ive tried a few Hagen sunglo was too bright, Hagen aquaglo abit dimmer apparantly good for plants had a very pleasant pinky bluey light that really showed off colors but my favorite by far is the interpet blue moon moonlight bulb designed for night viewing, it probably not good for live plants but my axie acts as if the lights not even on, no more hiding in his cave for days at a time and has an blue glow that makes the tank look amazing. The downside being if you had nice colorful axies they would all just look different shades of blue rather than the beautiful whites n golds but gomez is grey so he looks better blue haha! Id recommend the aquaglo if you want to accentuate the colors of your axies and the tank while still using a relitively soft light or the moonlight tube if you want to see your axies out and about more often i went for the latter its nice to turn the light on and not have him dart to the nearest corner or cave.

Bet you cant wait!
